Squidoo, And How It Applies To You
Have you ever heard of Squidoo? It is becoming quite the popular resource when you when you’re in search of information. What is Squidoo? It is a free website where you can make pages and post articles about what you know. Really, it’s that simple.
Squidoo http://www.squidoo.com/ has thousands of users, all with something to share. Basically, if you know something, and are confident in that subject, Squidoo is an excellent place for you. You can obtain ratings, comments and popularity on their site. If you do it right, including links to your website, it will help draw traffic back to you. Just remember to not make it your personal blog. The Joy of Squidoo: A recipe ebook for creating great lenses (pdf) explains that you want to help and encourage people, not promote your personal self.
“5. Don’t build a lens designed to promote yourself. That’s not the point. No one cares about you. No one! Instead, build a lens to build trust or connections or best of all, to help people. That’s how you promote yourself.”
If bringing traffic to your website wasn’t enough incentive, Squidoo helps you build credibility. People will start coming to you, referencing your work, and linking to you. That’s really what the business/internet world is about. You want people to keep coming back for more. That’s how we get traffic, that’s how we get clicks, that’s how we make money. Oh, did I mention you can make money on Squidoo? You can make money for you, or donate it to charity. In fact, 5% of Squidoo profits go straight to charity - there aren’t too many companies that do that anymore.
Sounds interesting, but you don’t know how to get started? Well, start off by going to their site, and start reading. Their layout is fun, full of energy, and a little quirky (which you get immediately from their squid-eyeball logo). Everything is easy to follow and straightforward, and gets you excited about starting a lens on their site. They help give you several ideas of what you could be writing about too, so if you’re not really sure what to talk about, their site will help.
Squidoo has made it much more simple to get a jumpstart in the SEO world. Use their services alongside your own website and skills, and you will continue to rise in your internet ranking.
If you build it, they will come.

I’ve had minimal success with squidoo, it requires some trial and error. Slowly it’s starting to help my blog though. The decent quality backlinks aren’t hurting too much either.

Listen, Squidoo is a nice tool to show your friends your nice shiny pages you’ve made, but unless it’s a fantastic page that gets picked up by tons of other relevant websites, you won’t get much SEO out of it.
