Keep Them Interested Socially
So, you’ve got all of your fantastic social media, networking to the world, but you don’t seem to be getting feedback from anyone. There are always those people out there that are just not going to comment on anything, no matter how amazing it is. Then, there are people who are always going to leave some horrible comment just because they have nothing better to do (ignore those by the way). And then finally, you have the people who comment when it’s good. Sometimes they’re comment just to say something in there, but they’ll become much more active if you feed them good material.
A lot of social media is being used for simply that, being social. There’s nothing wrong with this, that is the reason why much of it was created. However, companies and businesses do it too. Again, there’s nothing wrong with this, but you need to know when the “drinking coffee” comment is appropriate.
First off, there’s nothing inappropriate about drinking coffee. It’s simply that it’s uneventful, unneeded (most of the time), and uninspiring. It’s okay to throw in the occasional cup of coffee, but the majority of your Tweets, or updates, should be something of substance. People need more to eat than just coffee!
The reason why people want to friend you, become your fan, follow you (in a non-stalker way…hopefully), is because you have something to say. You’ll get the people who are simply your friends or family, but to get those other people you should start putting a little more thought into blogs and posts on these sites.
What should you post then? In a world of connectivity I am sure you can find something. There’s what you do, what your business does. Maybe you’re an artist. Try putting up something like “working on an art nouveau illustration. very pleased”. This is going to spark some interest in what you’re working on, even if you don’t get many or any comments about it. In addition to something like this, you could start posting/blogging about this piece of artwork. Start displaying some steps you’re going through, so people can see the project developing. You will get people coming back to see if there are updates. So you see, that is much more involved than just a cup of coffee.
What if you post mundane tasks and liven them up, like a cup of coffee of instance? Take the same concept from the previous example with the artwork and displaying the steps. Maybe start taking pictures of these cups of coffee, or do something with each one of them that is different. If you spill it one day, take a picture (only if you have time and you didn’t knock it into your computer or something… or if you destroyed something with it, heck, post that too!) There’s a little niche out there for everything, and someone will be interested in it. Try making everything you post absolutely interesting to someone. It doesn’t require that much extra effort, and can really be fun – especially if you get a reaction from people.
Whatever you choose to post on these things, be sure it is professional and not inappropriate. Unless your business is based off of being inappropriate, try to avoid potty talk. There are plenty of interesting things out there to talk about that don’t include being rude or judgmental. Just put an extra couple minutes into thinking about it while you’re logging into your account or the page is loading. Don’t make people bored with your content, keep them interested!

Best idea is to come up with something controversial or debatable … these things are intriguing.

Poster aboveis right – you provoke debate and emotion and people are much more likely to post, and return to oyur site to check how their post has been responded to. That’s also why it is important to keep em coming back.

True. Sometimes people forget about their readers, and just write about anything in a style that actually loses the readers’ interest. We should always remember to write for the readers in a very interesting way. In that way, both become productive and mutual learning.
