Be a Good SEO Client
So, it’s come to the point that you need to hire a (good) SEO person to take care of your site and your business. Once you find a reputable one, there are some things you ought to keep in mind. This is all assuming your SEO person has passed all of its criteria you needed, so this is the after-hire.
A lot of clients have trust issues and want to run the way everything is being done. This is true for any kind of client, whether it be to SEO or design, or anything else. I should say really it’s not a trust issue as much as a control issue. Keep in mind that you’ve hired this person or team because you need a professional to do this work for you, and if you’ve hired them you should be able to trust what they’re doing. This doesn’t mean turn a blind eye, you should always keep an eye on what’s going on and be involved, but remember to let them do their jobs.
Be sure to communicate with your SEO team (we’ll say team just to make it easier). By no means should you stop finding out what they’re doing, you want to be sure they’re doing their job, but don’t harp on them either. If you hired them in the first place, it’s because you want them there and know they do a good job.
Ask your SEO team what they recommend – you want their advice and to get the best results possible. Don’t just take their advice, you want to feel included. Be sure to ask some questions too. It’s okay to ask questions and it’ll put your mind at ease, since you’ll them be more included in what’s going on. Take their advice and recommendations and put them to good use. If you don’t want them to do something they should be fine with not doing it, but if they say something about it being a better idea (and listen to what they have to say), then you should really take it into deep consideration. This of course all depends on the results you’re trying to achieve.
It takes a team of people (you included) to keep everything running smoothly and efficiently, especially when it comes to SEO. Monitor your results as they come to light. If you start getting more traffic on your site, and more clicks, and more sales, then your SEO team is doing their job. Do not however, rely on the ranking of your site to be #1, especially immediately. It takes some time to get it up there, and your success is much more effectively measured by the increase in traffic. If the traffic increases and everything gets better, it’s okay if you’re not the first on the search engine results page, you’ll get there.
Not only is it good to be a good hire, but it’s also good to be a good client. If everyone works well as a team, you will get a lot further and closer to your goals in a shorter time. You will also be less stressed – and everyone loves being less stressed! I know I do.

We always get the client involved in the process. They need to have a sense of ownership and responsibility when it comes to managing their website, even if they’re paying another company to do this for them.
