As many of you are probably aware, social-networking and microblogging site Twitter is becoming more and more viral as we speak. Various eBusinesses and blogs have twitter accounts, along with various SEO companies/celebrities. With this premise, if you are using this viral microblogging platform to get the word out about your business’ products or events, I have provided some tips and tricks below on how to make your tweets more search-friendly, especially since Google is indexing tweets within its listings.

  1. Always Provide A Link - When tweeting about a specific event or product, make sure that an exact link to the reference is provided. This will help users and search engines acquire more information about the reference that you made, especially if your reference is described on a deep link included in your business’ website.
  2. Add A Hashtag - A “hashtag” is a one-word tag that is mentioned in a tweet that relates to (and practically sums up) the purpose of your tweet. Some examples of hashtags can be found under the “Trending Topics” section of the Twitter website; however, those mainly cover pop culture topics. Hashtags are an effective way to get your tweets noticed, because they act as keywords for the tweet’s topic (especially if your tweet is structured not to mention it in the first place). For example, if someone was searching for the #SEO tag, they can find websites and blog posts that do not have “SEO” mentioned in the content of the tweet:
  3. Retweeting - Another way of getting your business/blog noticed around Twitter and Google is to have your tweets “retweeted” from other users. This acts as “forwarding” your tweets and helps get your tweet seen by your friends and followers, and is also another way of gaining backlinks for your site if there is a link present within your tweet. All that you have to do is to ask one of your friends and/or followers to retweet a specific tweet that you made, and to post your tweet
verbatim to what you made with the words “RT” prior to the tweet content. I have provided some examples of retweeting below:

Please feel free to provide any feedback you have on how Twitter has helped your website’s SEO and/or any techniques that you use to help promote your website on this quality and viral microblogging service.
